Welcome!

Hello and welcome to the Svelte and SvelteKit workshop on master.dev.

The goal of this course is to teach you how to build full-stack web apps that are resilient, accessible, efficient, and maintainable, using the tools Svelte gives you.

Along the way we’re going to learn some web fundamentals.

Who this is for

You, hopefully! If you’re brand new to web development you may want to check out Brian Holt’s The Complete Intro to Web Development, v3, but if you already know what those things are then you’re ready to learn Svelte.

You should also be familiar with the terminal, and know what npm is and how to use it.

Meet your instructor

I’m Rich Harris, a software engineer born in Old York, now living in New York. I work on Svelte full-time at Vercel.

I’ve been doing web development and open source for a long time. Besides Svelte, I also created Rollup and many other libraries. You’ve almost certainly used my code without knowing it!

When I post, I do it on Bluesky — @rich-harris.dev. (You should sign up, by the way!)

Your job

Those of you here in the room: keep me honest, call out any errors, and pipe up if something doesn’t make sense.

The livestream crowd: ask lots of questions! The mods will do their best to relay them.

The rest of you: open your editor, grab a cup of tea, and enjoy the ride. Welcome to Svelte.
